Criminal Investigations
Captain Jon Hall oversees the criminal investigations division, which comprises detectives investigating major felonies, misdemeanors, vice, and narcotic crimes. The unit is also in charge of intelligence gathering, including homeland security and crime trends in the area.
They utilize a variety of investigative methods, as well as using sophisticated computer networks to obtain information.
The undercover component utilizes state-of-the-art equipment, surveillance techniques, and typical undercover work. Often, the unit joins with surrounding law enforcement agencies on investigations.
If you have been a victim of a crime, your first encounter with the Tavares Police Department would have been with a uniformed officer, who would then turn the report over to Criminal Investigations. Once the case has been assigned to a detective, he/she will contact the victim to investigate further. Detectives can devote more time to investigating a case than a uniform officer can.
Street Crimes Unit
Captain Jon Hall oversees this special investigations unit. The Street Crime Unit is responsible for all narcotic investigations, undercover operations, surveillance, and other vice crimes. The unit comprises officers not only from TPD but in partnership with surrounding law enforcement agencies. This allows the unit to tackle the problems of drugs from a larger perspective, making enforcement more effective.
