Designed for seniors with a "playful" attitude, the City of Tavares created the Young at Heart Program to offer our 55+ community a chance to gather around the table to enjoy classic board games, light refreshments, cards and old-fashion fellowship.
Held weekly on Tuesdays from 1:30pm - 3:30pm in the Tavares Civic Center (located behind the Tavares Public Library) during the months of October through April, the Young at Heart Program is open to anyone who wants to have a good time with lots of games, goodies and giggles at no charge.

Monthly discussions in the library conference room feature various history related topics including family heirlooms, how to determine historical periods in undated photographs, old family recipes, Victorian funeral customs and how to begin researching your family tree.

Students of all ages and Tavares Police Officers come together to play life-size board games, classic board games and video games. Students who attend the program will also receive a book to add to their own personal collection.

No Duck Left Behind Rubber Ducky Race is a rubber duck race and carnival held on March 4, 2017. The event has multiple heats of the duck races with the winning duck owner receiving a $5,000 college scholarship. Sponsorship ranges from $500 to $5,000.

The Tavares Babe Ruth League will kick off the 2017 spring season in both baseball and softball with the Opening Day Ceremony on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Fred Stover Sports Complex. Teams will be lined up on the field as league administrators and city officials open the season. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 AM with the presentation of our colors and the signing of the National Anthem.
